oh, the stage!
a vignette -- poem
The past, present, and future collided into me--in the midst of a sea of green gowns and celebratory caps. They lingered for a while, as the birds sang and sang, until the cicadas took their turn. The names that echoed through the amphitheatre would soon become memories of childhood laughter, innocence, and wonder. Before I walked onto the stage, I looked down at my hands and traced the birthmarks that had followed me to this moment. It was a reminder that I was only getting older, yet my maturing palms could now hold endless possibilities. The faces of my peers, the blinding lights, and the roar of cheers all urged me forward into a new chapter. Oh, the stage--the stage! For it was truly a stage of life, of endings and new beginnings.

This vignette is my submission for The Unjaded’s spring issue, “May will always be yours.” I had the greatest pleasure of my writing being selected back in December for their first magazine issue. If you haven’t read it yet, here is the poem that was published:
