Spring is in the air, and so are fashionable outfits! The spring season is one of my favorites because it’s a great transition period. It might still be a bit chilly where you are, or it could be warmer— either way, you can still have a lot of fun with your outfits.
The springtime is all about renewal, lightness, and playful energy. It’s the perfect time to experiment with new pieces or bring back old favorites. I love seeing what others are wearing during the spring; it always gives me so many ideas for pairing different pieces and colors.
Here are some of my favorites that I’ve seen so far :)
ballet flats
Anyone who knows me knows I love flats (Mary Janes and ballet flats, to be exact). They’re so flattering because they create clean angles and nice lines that elevate any outfit. For spring, you can really wear any type of flat. Whether it’s closed-toe or sheer, they work beautifully with the season’s light, breezy vibe.
I also love them because they’re incredibly versatile— you can dress them up or down. Heading to a girls’ night or a dinner date? Flats can make your outfit look polished and put-together without the need for heels. And if you’re just grabbing coffee or running errands, they give off that perfect laid-back-but-still-stylish feel. It’s like you put effort into your look, but it’s still effortless.
Flats are a great shoe choice for spring because you can have so much fun with different colors and styles. You can stick with traditional shades like black or brown, or go in a completely different direction with a bright blue or a muted yellow. I have Madewell’s Greta Ballet Flats in silver and black with metal studs, and they always make my outfits pop. They’re perfect for those times when your outfit feels a little basic and just needs something to elevate it.
(*tip: if you plan to wear socks with flats that don't have straps or are a bit loose, grippy socks are a great option to ensure the shoes stay on securely)
suede bags
I feel like every girl struggles to find the perfect jeans… and the perfect bag. While everyone has their own must-haves when it comes to bags, there’s just something about big, suede shoulder bags that I absolutely adore. They’re timeless— which means they’ll always be in style, whether it’s spring or any other season.
I especially love suede bags for spring because they feel like the perfect blend between seasons. Suede has that soft, cozy texture we associate with winter, but it pairs beautifully with the lighter fabrics we wear in spring, like linen and cotton. The contrast adds such a chic, effortless touch to any outfit.
While I love shoulder bags, there are other styles— like totes or bucket bags— that can bring out the playful vibe of spring just as well. And you don’t have to go for vibrant colors if that’s not your thing. Earthy tones like brown, taupe, or forest green still look amazing. These shades pair beautifully with most colors, especially those found in the spring palette.
(*tip: suede bags look great with denim! whether you're wearing a denim jacket, a pair of jeans, or a skirt, a suede bag can add an elegant touch to a casual look)
layering tops
When we think of layering, we often picture sweaters or heavy coats from the autumn and winter months. But in spring, layering is still totally doable especially when it comes to tops. I think sometimes we overthink it, worrying that it might look off or out of place. But spring layering can be just as fun (and just as chic) as in the colder months.
One trend I’ve been seeing a lot is using dresses as an under layer— and I definitely think it stems from the resurgence of Y2K fashion. When done right, especially with mesh fabrics or staple colors, it can add a really feminine touch to an outfit. You can also tone it down or edge it up with stronger, bolder pieces layered on top.
You can mix and match pieces with similar necklines or experiment with different ones. You can also play around with various top cuts— like tanks, short sleeves, or long sleeves. This kind of layering is especially great if you live somewhere with unpredictable weather throughout the day.
(*tip: having white as the base color when layering is key, as it helps you easily match other styles and colors)
classic patterns
I think one of the best times to wear patterns and prints is during the spring. Even if a piece has a basic cut or silhouette, choosing one with a pattern can instantly make the outfit more interesting. Florals are the go-to spring pattern— they naturally tie into the season’s theme of rebirth. But other prints like gingham, polka dots, and stripes can also add a sense of vibrancy and playfulness.
In spring, you can go for soft, pastel colors or lean into bold, vibrant ones. If you want something more timeless, starting with shades like black, blue, or white is always a good base to build on. While I usually don’t wear them, I love looking at the brighter, bolder patterns— they make experimenting with outfits so much more fun!
During the spring, wearing patterns with loose pants, long skirts, and oversized shirts is the perfect way to embrace the season’s fresh, airy vibe. These styles not only feel breezy and comfortable but also look effortlessly chic. If it's still a bit chilly, layering with a long-sleeve top or sweater can really complement the pattern. This adds a touch of sophistication without trying too hard, making the outfit look put-together and stylish, no matter the weather.
(*tip: if you're experimenting with different prints, balance them with solid-colored pieces to avoid overwhelming your outfit)
flowy skirts
Speaking of skirts, I’ve been loving all the ones people are wearing this spring. While skirts are definitely wearable in colder months, there's something extra special about them in spring — they feel light, fresh, and perfectly in tune with the warmer weather ahead.
If you're going for a timeless and chic look, I highly recommend midi and maxi skirts. They’re incredibly flattering and can also be a bit more modest, if that's a must. Flowing skirts are perfect for spring because they pair so well with either a fitted top or a loose cardigan, depending on the day's activities and the weather.
A patterned skirt can really make an outfit stand out by adding emphasis and personality. Even if the design is on the simpler side, the cut of the skirt can elevate the whole look and give it more character. A white flowy skirt, for example, is always a great choice— it’s versatile enough to wear in both spring and summer, making it a timeless piece for your wardrobe.
(*tip: when choosing shoes for a flowy skirt, consider the length of the skirt. for maxi or midi skirts, opt for flats or strappy heels to create a balanced proportion. if you're looking for something more dramatic and fun, chunky sneakers or platform shoes can add a playful edge)
The beauty of spring fashion is that it’s all about versatility, mixing, and matching. You don’t have to pack away your favorite winter items as the weather warms up; many pieces can easily transition into spring with just a few tweaks. This is also true when it comes to summer— I can see many of these pieces carrying over into the hotter months as well.
